Mark 2 A85 Carriage

Description

The A85 carriage was designed by Clayton Engineering Limited for the RNLI in 2004, and was based on an existing carriage used for launching a smaller RIB than the A85 RIB.  The carriage carried over many features of the previous design, but also included some innovative features.  A collapsible tow point was fitted as some boat-houses were too short to house the new boat and trailer.  Also, tipping and rail mounted variants were added to the design, followed by a tracked version and a triple axle version.

In 2011 Clayton Engineering Limited and the RNLI carried out a Lean design review of the product.  As a result of this exercise many redundant features were removed and the design rationalised resulting in a 20% reduction in the price.
